RU-CENTER now accepts applications for registration of .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domain names
Moscow, June 10, 2014 – RBC OJSC (Moscow Exchange: RBCM) hereby announces that the national domain registrar RU-CENTER now accepts applications for the registration of new .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domain names. Submitted applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis at each registration stage. A new domain name can be registered for a period of one to ten years. Submitting an advanced application increases the chances of registering popular or catchy domain names throughout the open registration period, which is slated to begin on September 24, 2014.
During the initial registration stage which will last until July 10, domain names will be registered on a priority basis for trademark owners listed in the ICANN Depository. Applications from owners of trademarks that are legally protected in the Russian Federation will be treated from July 15, 2014, while applications for domain names identical to names of Moscow-based companies, as well as the names of media, non-profit organizations, and place of origin of a product registered in Moscow or the Moscow region will be processed from August 19. The registration will be open for everyone from September 24.
“Moscow is Russia’s economy hub. The majority of companies have offices in the capital. We expect high demand for registration in new domain zones from large enterprises interested in creating new specialized webpages in the Moscow region, as well as from small and medium-sized businesses that were founded in Moscow and have become an integral part of the capital’s economy,” Head of External Relations and Communications at RU-CENTER Andrey Vorobyev said.
“In addition, .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domain zones will help ensure a developed infrastructure of Moscow-based social Internet resources, including websites of local authorities, museums, stores, and tourist companies. This would all make Moscow more attractive for its residents, as well as Russian and foreign tourists,” Vorobyev added.
.MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains were delegated by ICANN corporation at the end of April 2014. RU-CENTER acts as an authorized domain registrar in the new zones.
